Course Overview
This course enables students to further develop the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement competence and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by and affects the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively

UNIT ONE
Foundations of Healthy Active Living

This unit lays a solid foundation for students by emphasizing the importance of an active lifestyle and providing them with the tools to maintain it. Through engaging lessons, students will gain a deep understanding of the factors influencing physical activity, the significance of safety, and the principles of training and fitness. By the end of this unit, students will be well-prepared to approach physical activities with confidence, competence, and a commitment to lifelong health and well-being.

UNIT TWO
Engaging in Physical Activity

In this unit, students will explore a variety of physical activities and sports, both in small and large group settings. They will develop and apply movement strategies, teamwork, and communication skills to enhance their participation and performance. The unit also emphasizes health and safety considerations, including conflict resolution, outdoor and aquatic safety, and the influence of culture on rhythmic and expressive activities. Through practical engagement and theoretical understanding, students will gain a comprehensive appreciation of how physical activities contribute to their overall health and well-being.

UNIT THREE
Personal and Social Development

This unit focuses on the comprehensive understanding of health and wellness across multiple dimensions, including physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. Students will explore factors that enhance mental health, develop positive self-concept and self-esteem, and recognize the characteristics of healthy relationships. Emphasis is placed on effective stress management, making healthy decisions, and applying social-emotional learning (SEL) skills within physical activity settings. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, students will be equipped with strategies to improve their overall health and well-being and foster positive interactions in their daily lives.

UNIT FOUR
Healthy Living in a Changing World

This unit covers essential topics related to nutrition and substance use, emphasizing informed decision-making and awareness of health impacts. Students will explore the functions and sources of various nutrients, learn to read and understand food labels, and assess the nutritional implications of their dietary choices. The unit also delves into addiction, providing a comprehensive understanding of its stages, impact on brain chemistry, and associated risk factors. Additionally, students will learn about substance abuse, identifying common substances, their effects, and strategies for prevention and intervention. By integrating knowledge and practical skills, this unit aims to foster healthier lifestyle choices and a deeper understanding of how personal and societal factors influence health and well-being.
