THE ONTARIO CURRICULUM: Classical Studies and International Languages
Course Overview
This course prepares students for university studies in the international language. Students will enhance their ability to use the language with clarity and precision, and will develop the language skills needed to engage in sustained conversations and discussions, understand and evaluate information, read diverse materials for both study and pleasure, and write clearly and effectively. Students will also have opportunities to add to their knowledge of the culture of countries where the language is spoken through the use of community resources and computer technology.
UNIT ONE
Chinese Classic Prose/ Story Telling
Students will study Prose/Short Story through literature review and case studies. They will learn about the Chinese Prose/ Story Telling by learning and utilizing various writing techniques.
UNIT TWO
Daily-life Application of Mandarin
Students will give meaning of their stay in Canada by examining the cross-culture everyday life experience. Understanding the Canadian culture and compare it with their own. Cross-culture study of relationship and cope with biological maturity.
UNIT THREE
Buddhism and Evolutionary Psychology
Students will learn the connection between secular Buddhist thought and modern evolutionary psychology. Their improved Intercultural Understanding of reasoning, communication, and personality growth will prepare them well for their upcoming College/University journey. Students will be very proud of their cultural heritage through the lens of modern evolutionary psychology.
UNIT FOUR
Social issues discussion & Media Awareness& Critical thinking method
Student will learn the difference between Logic in Canada and logic in China. They will also discuss the generation gap between parents and children on issues concerning school, the educational system, and social expectations. They will learn about the cultural roots and traditions, moral principles, and how those will be of use in Canada.
