Course Overview

This hands-on course allows students to further explore the engineering design process and build on technological knowledge and skills introduced in earlier grades. Students will design and safely create prototypes, products, and services using tools and technologies from various industries. As they develop projects to address real-life problems, they will apply technological concepts such as precision measurement and adhere to health and safety standards. Additionally, students will begin to explore job skills programs and education and training pathways, including skilled trades, that can lead to various careers.

This course is structured into two main areas:

  1. Design Processes and Related Skills: Students will engage in project-based learning, utilizing engineering principles and a variety of industry tools to design and create products or services. They will enhance skills like problem-solving, project management, communication, and learn to adhere to safety protocols.
  2. Technological Development, Impacts, and Careers: Learners will investigate how social, economic, and environmental factors influence technological advancements, understand the global and everyday impacts of technology, and explore various tech-related careers including skilled trades.

Supporting Your Child’s Learning: Parents can aid their child’s educational journey by engaging in discussions about their class projects, applying their learning to real-world scenarios, and encouraging exploration of tech fields through career fairs and discussions with professionals in the industry.
