Course Overview

This course focuses on the foods, flavors, cooking techniques, and cultural traditions of global cuisines. Students will develop practical cooking and food-related etiquette skills as they explore the origins and development of diverse food traditions, examining how Canadian food choices and traditions have been influenced by other cultures.

UNIT ONE
Culture, Foods & Food Practice
Essential Question: What is the significance of understanding the evolution of food and its cultural influences?
Students will explore how different cultures have influenced food practices and the evolution of culinary arts globally.

UNIT TWO
Foods & Flavours
Essential Question: How do different cultures influence the dynamics and flavors of food?
Students will investigate how global cultures contribute to the rich diversity of flavors and culinary techniques, enhancing their understanding of international cuisine.

UNIT THREE
Food-Preparation Skills
Essential Question: What foundational skills are necessary for transitioning to practical cooking?
This unit equips students with essential cooking techniques and food safety principles, preparing them for practical kitchen experiences.

UNIT FOUR
Culminating Project
Essential Question: How can culminating projects encapsulate the comprehensive learning about food and culture?
