Course Overview
AMU1O online emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. In AMU10 online, students will develop an understanding of the conventions and elements of music and of safe practices related to music and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their life.
UNIT ONE
Fundamentals of Music Performance and Composition
In this unit, students will learn the fundamentals of music performance and composition. They will explore the creative process in both performance and composition and learn about the elements of music in notated music performance and improvisation. Students will also study music composition techniques and apply them to their own compositions. Through this unit, students will gain a solid foundation in the basics of music performance and composition, allowing them to express themselves creatively through music.
UNIT TWO
Music And Society
In this unit, students will delve into the complex relationship between music and society. They will begin by learning how to analyze music, examining both its technical and expressive aspects. Through lessons on traditional, commercial, and art music, students will explore the impact of different musical genres on society. They will also learn about the role of music in personal growth and the opportunities it presents beyond the classroom. By the end of this unit, students will have a deeper understanding of how music shapes culture and society and the power it holds to bring people together.
UNIT THREE
Notation, Performance and History
In this unit, students will be introduced to the basics of musical notation and performance, both in the context of the primary musical instrument of their choice. Students will learn how to properly set up, hold and play notes on their instrument. They will also learn how to discern between tones, semitones and accidentals on a score, on both the treble and bass clefs. Students will write and perform major and minor scale patterns, as well as compose original melodies based on these scale patterns. Students will also be introduced to the social and historical significance of music from various time periods and various cultures and societies around the world.
