Course Overview
PPL3O online enables students to further develop the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities and exposure to a broader range of activity settings, students enhance their movement competence, personal fitness, and confidence. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. In PPL3O online, students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.

UNIT ONE
Basis of Active Living

This unit focuses on developing students’ understanding and appreciation of lifelong physical activity, personal fitness, and safety in physical activities. Students will explore various forms of exercise, learn about fitness principles, and develop strategies for maintaining an active lifestyle while practicing safe participation in physical activities.

UNIT TWO
Mastering Movement Skills and Strategies

This unit focuses on developing and refining fundamental movement skills while learning to apply effective movement strategies in various physical activities. Students will explore, practice, and demonstrate their understanding of movement concepts through different sports and activities, enhancing their physical literacy and movement competency.

UNIT THREE
Navigating Safety and Substance Use

This unit covers essential topics related to nutrition and substance use, emphasizing informed decision-making and awareness of health impacts. Students will explore the functions and sources of various nutrients, learn to read and understand food labels, and assess the nutritional implications of their dietary choices. The unit also delves into addiction, providing a comprehensive understanding of its stages, impact on brain chemistry, and associated risk factors. Additionally, students will learn about substance abuse, identifying common substances, their effects, and strategies for prevention and intervention. By integrating knowledge and practical skills, this unit aims to foster healthier lifestyle choices and a deeper understanding of how personal and societal factors influence health and well-being.

UNIT FOUR
Promoting Mental Health and Healthy Relationships

This unit focuses on developing students’ understanding of personal health, decision-making skills for well-being, and the interconnected nature of health choices. Students will explore factors affecting health, learn to make informed decisions about their well-being, and understand how their choices impact both themselves and others.
